US CMA Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least two years of professional experience in management accounting or financial management.
  • Successful completion of the CMA program, including passing both examinations and maintaining active membership with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
  • Registration for the examination through IMA and payment of the applicable examination fees.

Candidates may appear for the examinations before completing the education and work experience requirements. However, these requirements must be fulfilled within seven years of passing the examinations.

International candidates are also eligible to pursue the US CMA certification. Candidates whose first language is not English may be required to demonstrate English language proficiency where applicable.
