Exploring the Benefits of Taking a CLAT Course

Introduction

The Common Law Admission Test, or CLAT, is an annual countrywide legal entrance exam. After completing their 12th grade, students who wish to study at one of the top NLUs (National Law Universities) take the CLAT exam. The CLAT is a two-hour exam with 120 multiple-choice questions divided into five parts: Verbal Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, and Legal Aptitude.

CLAT serves as a gateway to some of India’s best law universities. These include the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bangalore, the National Law University (NLU) in Delhi, and the National Law Institute University (NLIU) in Bhopal, among many more. These universities provide outstanding legal education and have a solid reputation in the legal profession.

CLAT Course Syllabus

The CLAT syllabus consists of five sections: English Language, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The English Language portion has questions about grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. The Current Affairs segment comprises questions about national and worldwide events, while the Legal Reasoning component covers legal principles and concepts. The Logical Reasoning component assesses candidates’ abilities to analyze and solve complicated issues, whereas the Quantitative Techniques section contains math and numerical ability questions.

CLAT Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Requirements: The candidate must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% (40% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates who take the qualifying examination in the same year are also eligible to apply for CLAT; however, they must produce documentation of passing the examination at the time of admission.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for taking the CLAT exam.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens or NRIs/NRI-sponsored individuals.
  • Other Criteria: Candidates with a history of criminal convictions, academic misconduct, or disciplinary action are ineligible for admission to any law school via CLAT.

The qualifying examination is the exam that an applicant must pass to be admitted to an undergraduate programme. This might be the 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination, like the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, the Cambridge Advanced Level (A-Level) certificate, or any other exam recognized by the candidate’s board as equivalent to the 10+2 examination.

It is crucial to note that each participating law school may have additional qualifying requirements that an applicant must complete before being considered for admission. When applying for CLAT, candidates should check the qualifying conditions of the law schools of their choice.
